Morning Muse 41 : Be the Plum: The Power of Staying True to Yourself

A gentle reminder, wrapped in the story of a plum, about why you shouldn’t change yourself to please others. Your uniqueness has a purpose — and the right people will love you for who you truly are.

“You were born to be an original, not a restless imitation.”

Let’s start with a story — one that might just echo a feeling we’ve all had at some point.

The Tale of the Plum

A plum once said:
"Just because a banana lover came by, I became a banana.
Then he wanted oranges, so I turned bitter.
Next came the apple phase — but he left for grapes.
Now, I don’t even remember who I truly am.
How I wish I had just remained a plum… and waited for someone who loved plums.”

Too often, we mold ourselves to fit others' expectations.
We laugh louder, shrink smaller, stay silent, or speak more — all to be liked, loved, or accepted.

But in doing so, we begin to forget our own flavour.
We trade the richness of who we are for approval that rarely stays.

Remember this:

The world takes you at your own estimate.
You’re not here to please everyone —
You’re here to be you and win your world.

Even Gandhi, Christ, and Krishna weren’t accepted by all.
Yet, they never stopped being who they were meant to be.

Your Uniqueness Has a Purpose
  • What water can do, gasoline cannot.

  • What the ant can do, the lion cannot.

  • What you can do, no one else ever can.

You weren’t sent into this world by accident —
You arrived when you were needed most.
To live fully.
To love deeply.
To create uniquely — by being unapologetically you.

Morning Affirmation

I honor my uniqueness. I no longer trade my truth for temporary applause.
I am rare. I am whole. I am enough.

So today — be the plum.
Don’t change your flavour for every passing palate.
Stay rooted in who you are — your people, your purpose, and your place will find you.
And when they do… life will taste just right.

Celebrate yourself. Celebrate life.
