Morning Muse 380 : In the Meantime, Live Fully

Life is often spent chasing future goals, achievements, and dreams, but true fulfilment comes from appreciating the present moment and the journey itself. The small experiences, relationships, struggles, and simple joys we encounter along the way are what give life its real meaning. Instead of postponing happiness for some distant destination, we should learn to live fully, mindfully, and gratefully “in the meantime.”

A traveller once spent years dreaming about reaching a distant mountain peak. He imagined the joy, the view, the feeling of accomplishment waiting at the summit. Day after day, he hurried along the path, barely noticing the rivers beside him, the forests whispering in the wind, the laughter of fellow travellers, or the flowers blooming quietly along the roadside.

When he finally reached the top, an old shepherd sitting there smiled and asked,
“Tell me, did you enjoy the journey?”

The traveller fell silent.

How often do we live like this?

Life constantly pulls us toward the future, another goal, another destination, another achievement, another dream waiting somewhere ahead. There is always something to accomplish, somewhere to reach, someone we hope to become. The future carries promise, hope, and possibility, and that hope gives meaning to our efforts.

Yet while we keep waiting for life to fully begin “someday,” precious moments quietly pass us by.

The conversations we postpone.
The sunsets we ignore.
The friendships we neglect.
The simple joys hidden in ordinary days.

A wise elder once said,
“Do not become so busy preparing for life that you forget to live it.”

The truth is that life is not only found at the summit of success, nor only in grand moments of victory. Much of life unfolds in the “meantime”, in the daily struggles, small acts of kindness, shared laughter, quiet perseverance, and the ordinary rhythm of living.

Even difficult seasons carry hidden beauty. The climb itself strengthens us. The detours teach us patience. The people who walk beside us often become more meaningful than the destination we once chased.

Nature understands this deeply. Flowers bloom fully without rushing. Rivers flow steadily without anxiety about the ocean.

Perhaps we too are meant to live more presently, appreciating each day instead of endlessly postponing happiness for some distant future.

Reflection

There will always be another goal to reach and another mountain to climb.
But life is not only about arriving somewhere someday, it is also about learning to cherish the journey, the people, and the quiet beauty found “in the meantime.”
