Morning Muse 285 : Puthandu & Vishu

Puthandu and Vishu mark not just a change of calendar, but a conscious new beginning. By starting the year with gratitude, clarity, and positive intention—like viewing the Vishu kani—we shape the spirit of the months ahead. True prosperity begins within; when we cleanse the inner space and light the inner lamp, the year unfolds with balance and grace.

Today, the sun steps into a new rhythm, and homes in Tamil Nadu and Kerala awaken to sacred beginnings.

The kani is arranged with care—gold, fruits, rice, flowers, a mirror—symbols of abundance and clarity. At dawn, eyes open not merely to objects, but to intention. For what we choose to see first often shapes how we see the year ahead.

There is an old story of a child who asked his grandmother,
“Does the Vishu kani bring good fortune?”

She smiled and replied,
“It reminds you that life is already full. When you begin with gratitude, fortune follows.”

The mirror placed in the kani reflects not just the face, but a quiet truth—that we ourselves are part of the abundance we seek.

Puthandu and Vishu are gentle invitations from time itself:
Begin again.
Clean the inner house.
Light the lamp within.

Let go of last year’s dust, and greet this dawn with steadiness and hope.

May this New Year bring clarity in thought, compassion in action, prosperity in effort, and peace in the heart.

As the sun turns in brilliance,
may our awareness turn inward in wisdom.
