Morning Muse 282 : The Perfumed Vessel
Like the clay pot that retained its old odour despite being placed among perfumes, outer exposure alone cannot bring inner change. True transformation happens only when we cleanse and refine ourselves from within. Changing places or company helps little unless our nature evolves.

A merchant once owned an old clay pot that carried a faint, musty smell. Hoping to improve it, he placed it for many days in a room filled with the finest incense and rare perfumes.
When he finally filled the pot with water and took a sip, he frowned. The air around it had changed—but the water within still carried the same old taste.
Perplexed, he went to a sage.
The sage smiled and said,
“You surrounded the vessel with fragrance, but you never cleansed it from within. Atmosphere can influence you; it cannot transform you unless you participate.”
In the same way, we may visit sacred places, listen to wise words, and seek noble company. Yet if our inner patterns remain untouched, little truly shifts.
Transformation is not a change of location.
It is a change of nature.
