Happiness is not a one-size-fits-all experience — it unfolds in layers, each deeper than the last. Broadly, it can be understood in three dimensions:
1. Physical Happiness
Our body is the vehicle through which we experience the world. Keeping it healthy forms the foundation of overall well-being.
To cultivate physical happiness:
• Eat mindfully — A balanced, nourishing diet fuels energy and vitality.
• Rest adequately — Proper sleep rejuvenates both body and mind.
• Exercise regularly — Movement keeps the body agile, alive, and strong.
2. Mental Happiness
Mental peace comes not from what we acquire, but from what we let go of.
To nurture mental happiness:
• Minimize expectations — Most disappointments stem from unmet desires.
• Reduce ego and pride — These create inner conflict and distance us from others.
• Eliminate negative thoughts — Your inner dialogue shapes your external world.
3. Spiritual Happiness
This is the deepest and most enduring form of joy — the kind that arises when the soul is in harmony.
To attain spiritual happiness:
• Recognize the soul — Know that you are not just the body, but the eternal being within.
• Let go of the past — Carrying old memories or pain only burdens the present.
• Release anxiety about the future — Plan mindfully, but don’t dwell in fear.
• Live in the present — Free yourself from Raag (attachment) and Dvesh (hatred).
• Serve selflessly — Help others without expecting anything in return.
• Meditate and surrender — Connect with the Supreme Soul in stillness and silence.
