Morning Muse 195 :The Illusion of Control
It is simple, direct, and philosophically grounded. It matches the inquiry-based nature of the muse and invites introspection without drama—ideal for a Sankranti/Pongal/Bihu reflection, which symbolically marks transition, surrender, and renewal.

The Illusion of Control
Many of our anxieties, restlessness, and strained relationships arise from one deeply rooted habit—the need to be in control. We cling to the idea that we are managing life, directing outcomes, and steering events. Yet a gentle awakening reveals a different truth. Pause and look closely: how much are you really in control of? Perhaps only a small fragment of your waking actions—and even that remains uncertain.
You are not in control when you sleep or dream. You are not in control of the thoughts that appear in your mind or the emotions that surge within you. They arrive unannounced. You may choose whether to act on them or not, but their arrival is never by your permission. Your heartbeat, breath, digestion, and healing continue effortlessly, without your command. When this understanding is extended further, it becomes clear that life, events, people, and even the universe itself do not function under personal control. To believe otherwise is simply a comforting illusion.
Seen from this perspective, the fear of losing control dissolves—because there was never real control to lose. The moment you loosen your grip on this false sense of authorship, relaxation naturally arises. Letting go does not make you weak; it makes you spacious. It is the constant identification with being somebody—the doer, the manager, the controller—that tightens you from within and confines your experience of life.
True ease comes when you recognize that life is happening through you, not because of you. In that surrender, anxiety softens, relationships breathe, and a deeper intelligence takes over. When the illusion of control drops away, what remains is trust, freedom, and a profound sense of peace.
