Morning Muse 190 : Loving Without Expectations: Anchored in the Self
Loving without expectations becomes possible when we live from a larger perspective. Through Atma Gyaan—the knowledge of the Self—we realize we are bigger than emotions, praise, blame, and outcomes. Emotions then become passing waves, not forces that drown us, allowing love to flow freely and steadily.

Loving without expectations appears difficult because love, by its very nature, gives rise to hopes and attachments. When these expectations are not fulfilled, hurt inevitably follows. Life, however, has its own way of teaching us—either through wisdom or through pain. When wisdom is present, learning unfolds gently; when it is absent, pain becomes the teacher. Yet even pain serves a purpose—it matures us with time.
This is why it is essential to hold a larger context of life. When our perspective expands, small incidents, reactions, and emotional turbulence begin to lose their grip on us. They become like waves on the surface of a vast ocean—rising and falling without disturbing the stillness in its depths.
This larger context is Atma Gyaan, the knowledge of the Self. It is the awareness that says: I am not my emotions. I am bigger than praise and blame, bigger than approval and rejection, bigger than the changing world around me. From this space, emotions may still arise, but they no longer overpower us. We witness them rather than drown in them.
This inner anchoring uplifts us. It gives us the quiet strength to love—freely, steadily, and without being shaken by every response or outcome.
