He was just seventeen, born with a form of cancer no one could cure. Most of his life had been spent indoors, watched over by a mother who loved him enough to let him go out just once.
That one afternoon changed everything.
He wandered down the street, stopped outside a music store, and saw a girl with the most beautiful smile he had ever seen. He walked in, too shy to speak, and bought a CD he didn’t need.
“Would you like it wrapped?” she asked.
He nodded.
And so it began. Day after day, he returned, each time buying one more CD, just to see her smile. Each one she wrapped, not knowing he never opened them.
One day, he found courage. He left his phone number on the counter, hoping she might call.
But life, unpredictable as ever, ran out of tomorrows for him that night.
When the girl finally called, it was his mother who answered, in tears.
Later, while going through her son’s things, the mother opened one of the CDs. Inside was a note:
“Hi! You’re cute. I’d love to meet you. Let’s go out sometime. — Sophie.”
Every single CD held the same message.
They had both waited too long.
