Morning Muse 170 : If I Had a Child to Raise Over Again
A reflective meditation on raising a child—less about doing everything right and more about being fully present. In slowing down, listening deeply, and loving without condition, we leave a lasting imprint on a child’s heart.

If I had a child to raise all over again, I would begin differently. I would build self-esteem first, and the house later. The walls could wait; the heart could not. I would spend less time pointing fingers and more time finger-painting. I would correct less and connect more.
I would take my eyes off the watch and learn to truly watch—to see the small miracles that happen when time slows down and the heart opens. I would care less about knowing everything and focus more on caring deeply.
There would be more hikes and more kites. I would take fewer serious steps and laugh more often, run more freely, and play more fearlessly. I would walk through more fields, look up at more stars, and hug longer without worrying about being late.
I would learn to see the oak tree in the acorn, the promise in every moment, the greatness quietly waiting in every child. I would be firm less often and affirm much more.
And above all, I would teach less about the love of power, and more about the power of love—the only lesson that endures beyond all others.
Because in the end, raising a child is not about perfection; it is about presence.
It is about showing up with love, with patience, and with eyes that see wonder instead of flaw.
