Morning Muse 110 : The Coin in the Road: Finding Meaning in Small Opportunities
Opportunities don’t always arrive grandly—they often appear as small, ordinary moments we overlook. When we notice them and act, even tiny chances can grow into something meaningful. Life rewards awareness, courage, and timing. “Notice the small opportunities around you, act without hesitation, and let them grow into something meaningful.”

Exercising isn’t my favourite pastime, but I try to take a daily five-kilometre walk, often carrying a notebook for the thoughts that come to me along the way. One day, I noticed a coin lying on the road. I stepped over it and kept walking, thinking of my son, who always picks up loose change. I wondered how many small opportunities I’ve ignored simply because they seemed insignificant—or because I felt embarrassed to act.
Later that evening, my son reminded me that small gains add up. What seems minor—a coin, a chance, a gesture—can become meaningful if acted upon. The next day, when I passed the same spot, the coin was gone—claimed by someone else willing to seize it. Life works the same way. Opportunities are everywhere, but only those attentive and ready to act can truly benefit from them.
Since that day, I’ve become more aware of the little chances around me. Instead of dismissing what seems trivial, I now ask: Could this be the start of something bigger? A simple one-rupee coin taught me a valuable lesson about awareness, timing, and the quiet power of action.
