Recently, I had a long conversation with my son. He felt frustrated seeing others who seem to have everything handed to them — wealthy friends with cars, comfort, and ease — while he must work hard to earn his own way. He confessed he doesn’t truly enjoy working and hasn’t set any personal goals for himself yet.

I told him that guidance can only go so far; the rest must be lived. Some people have everything either because they worked tirelessly toward their goals or because life never demanded responsibility from them.

I shared my own story: at sixteen, I longed for independence, wanted a place of my own, and aimed to finish college while working. By the time I graduated, I had achieved all of it — not through luck, but through effort and purpose.

Goals are essential; they give life direction and meaning. Each of us carries a unique blueprint, with lessons woven into our journey. Life is not about comparing yourself to others; it’s about understanding the challenges meant to teach you resilience, patience, and strength.

When the road feels bumpy and hope seems faint, that’s when we must hold on and keep learning. A person enriched with knowledge and experience is far more valuable than gold — for it is through these lessons that we uncover life’s true purpose.
