Conflict and Peace

About Me: Service, Strategy & Spirit

I am Colonel Prakash Tewari, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy, commissioned into the prestigious Garhwal Rifles, one of the most decorated regiments in the Indian Army.

Over a 27-year military career, I served in some of the most challenging operational theatres—from high-altitude Himalayan posts to insurgency-affected regions of Northeast India. My journey has been defined not only by tactical command but also by a deeper pursuit of purpose, peace, and community well-being.

Warrior in Action

My service record includes:

  • Paratrooper with specialized airborne assault training.

  • Deputy Leader of the First Chambal River Expedition.

  • Commandant of elite battalions in high-altitude warfare and counter-insurgency zones.

  • Leadership in a Para Military Force in Northeast India with dual responsibility for law & order and developmental operations.

I am a proud graduate of India’s most rigorous training institutions:Commando School (India)

Here I mastered unarmed combat, heliborne operations, cliff assaults, and battle obstacle courses—including endurance runs of 20 km and 40 km marathons under operational stress.

Counter-Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJWS), Mizoram

Recognized globally, this institution honed my skills in guerrilla warfare, psychological operations, and small-unit tactics for high-risk terrain.

Nation Building Through Peace

As Commandant in Northeast India, I helped bridge the divide between defense and development. In just three years:

  • Executed social and infrastructure projects worth $15 billion, electrifying isolated villages and improving public welfare.

  • Mediated a critical resettlement agreement between the Chief Ministers of Tripura and Mizoram, resolving the displacement of 35,000 people.

  • Appointed Advisor to the states of Tripura, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh for strategic development initiatives.

This fusion of force and foresight earned recognition in India's National Success Stories, 2003.

Conflict to Peace: A Global Perspective

In acknowledgment of my work in conflict transformation, I was selected by Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation to attend their prestigious Peace and Conflict Resolution Program at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok.

There, I received advanced training in:

  • Conflict analysis, resolution, and transformation

  • Track 2 & Track 3 diplomacy

  • Mediation, reconciliation, and arbitration

  • Spiritual and psychological healing as tools for peacebuilding

  • Community capacity-building and developmental diplomacy

My approach to psychological operations and reconciliation has always been human-centric—focusing not just on managing conflict, but transforming it into opportunity and peace.

Legacy of Leadership

Beyond combat readiness, I led with compassion. My deepest satisfaction came from:

  • Building trust in insurgency-affected communities

  • Replacing fear with dialogue

  • Empowering local leadership through education and development

  • Integrating security with humanitarian outreach

This spirit of integrity, inclusion, and nation-building continues to define my life’s work—in spiritual writing, environmental stewardship, and global dialogue.
